FIJI BOUND

Warm greetings to all our friends, families, and clients from 35,000 feet aboard the Fiji A350. We have 1 hour left of our 11 hours flight which was delayed from the original departure time.

We had a nice flight out of our brand-new KCI airport on good ole SW and landed in a very rainy LAX (Los Angeles). Since we had a 10-hour layover and not being able to check in with Fiji Air until 4 hours prior to departure, we opted to trek over to the rental car area (bags in tow) to inquire about renting a car. (I didn’t make a prior reservation because I wasn’t sure what the weather was going to be like in LA).

There were no rental cars available, so I got online and made a freak reservation and was ready to get in line. The problem was that there was only 1 person working with a two-hour line. (In America – this is called great customer service).

So, with droopy hair, we opted to go back to the LAX terminal and found the Bradley International terminal and had a pizza and cocktails. Now – a word to the wise, 10 hours is a long time to have cocktails. I had to make sure Jane didn’t get out of control. 😉

We found our way to the Fiji check in and went upstairs to the most modern airport I have ever seen including shopping from all the big-name stores that I can’t even pronounce. Very nicely displayed as the remodel continues. Very impressive.

Here we met a couple from Buenos Aries traveling back to Cape Town Africa by way of London. They were going to have a 11-hour flight to London and then another 11-hour flight on to Cape Town.  (It really is a small world).

Cape Town has been on my bucket list along with an African safari and checking out Victoria Falls – one of the largest in the world (stay tuned).

We finally boarded our plane for our 11-hour flight to Fiji.  We got settled in and soon after takeoff we each took a sleeping pill and got around 6 -7 hours of sleep prior to our arrival. Close to Fiji, we crossed the International Date Line where we lost a day. We will be crossing this again in the near future which makes it difficult to figure out which day it is.

As we approached Fiji, I was able to capture a video when we were on our final approach catching the landing gear coming down thanks to a camera mounted on the airplane. It is a bit lengthy but very cool all the way to touch down.

We just landed in Nadi, Fiji. BULA – which as I understand it – means welcome and hello.

We boarded our large taxi boat and are off to our island escape, The Likuliku Lagoon resort.
