We stayed in a homestay after traveling around 110 miles. We got up and took a walk and I had my eye on the ladies planting the rice. I asked my guide if we could make our way into the field so I could give it a try. So I removed my shoes and walked very carefully through the mud over to where they were planting. As I approached them they were laughing at me as it was hard to keep your balance. Upon my arrival they handed me over the plants and I started planting. They had to correct me as I started out planting a few to many plants. Once I got the hang of it they were very proud of me although they laughed again when I tried to straighten my back out after stooping over for awhile.
In Vietnam the government owns the land and farmers lease the land. The more children you have the more acres you can lease. Some farmers have small tractors they use in the fields thus parking the water buffalo. They grow rice, corn and peanuts. We also stopped by a tea field which I found very interesting.
We packed up and headed out traveling though what felt like the Rocky Mountains. The only difference was there were not many pine trees but rather more normal looking trees. At one point we were in the clouds. Very beautiful ride although I had to keep my eye on the road as we made our way through the maize.
We arrived at our hotel around 4:00 PM, had dinner and I was in bed by 8:30.

Loving your blog Doug. One of the favorite parts of my day. Keep em coming.
